We've closed the Tea Room
If you don’t follow us on Social Media, we need to share some news with you ...
On 6 September 2014 we opened Mrs Lyon’s Tea Room - and what an absolute whirlwind of an experience it’s been! We’ve had some crazy highs and some recent lows(COVID).
We’ve served thousands of afternoon teas, hosted hundreds of baby showers, birthdays and hen parties and built a wedding and occasion cake business that was never in the original plan! We’re so grateful you chose us for your special occasions
As most of you know, we decided we couldn’t continue with the demanding work/life balance to carry on building both businesses, so even before Covid hit, the Tea Room was put up for sale. Then lockdown hit and we lost our sale. We feared the worst, so tried to redeem all vouchers, as we didn’t know what the future had in store .
However, our Cakery was busier than ever - and this is where our passion and focus now lies.
So…..
7 years to the day since we opened our doors to our Tea Room – we handed over the keys to Mario and Rania and we’re so excited for you to see their plans.
Their Tea Room will be something that Standish High Street hasn’t seen before, and it sounds amazing! They will be transforming it into a Maltese Cafe Tea Room called Valletta. We will keep you all updated on their progress and opening date.
For us…. Nothing really changes! As usual we’ve been baking and decorating all of our wedding and occasion cakes from our cake studio based in Standish. We can now put all our energy into this side of the business. You’ll still be able to order cakes for delivery, through our website and social media. And of course, Izzy’s Tearoom in Hindley continues to stock a range of our cakes!
Finally, we just wanted to show our appreciation to you, all our customers over the past 7 years. Thank you for your repeated custom, kind words and friendly faces. Also a massive thank you to all the staff who have worked with us,
We hope we’ve all made some friendships that will last forever and the Tea Room would not have been a success without each and every one of you. We’ve all shared the ups and downs of crazy moments in our lives and we have some of the funniest memories to take with us (most of which always involved one particular person!)
We wish Mario and Rania all the luck in the world as we remember how excited we were at the beginning of our journey. We hope the High Street welcomes Valletta just as it did us.
We are working on lots of exciting things with our online Cakery and we’ll soon share those with you.
We hope to still be a part of your future celebrations!
Thank you for all your kind words.
You're the best!
Elaine & Vickie
I didn't use my Tea Room Gift Voucher
We're sorry you didn't use your voucher but we did our very best to make sure that everyone knew that all vouchers due to expire during Lockdown would be extended to the end of December 2020. We sent emails to everyone who had ever ordered off our website and to subscribers, we had notices in the Tea Room windows, posted multiple social media posts and local Wigan groups shared our posts. When we were allowed to open our Tea Room doors again in July we offered the option of a take-away Afternoon Tea. Where this wasn't a suitable option, we gave every voucher a six months extension to be used online or for collection of celebration and take-away cakes
We hope you understand that we were trying to do the right thing. From July to December we redeemed 236 vouchers. You can imagine the strain that Lockdown put on our business. It has been devastating and has cost us our staff. So nearly a year on from closing we hope you can understand we can no longer offer any further voucher redemption.
I want to collect my order
We bake all of our cakes from our purpose build bakery at our parents house, so as you can understand their neighbours really wouldn't appreciate lots of cars collecting, but if you really can't take delivery please contact us at hello@mrslyonscakery.co.uk and we can try to arrange a time you could collect.
Are you delivering afternoon tea?
Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we had to make staff redundant 😔 We no longer have the staff to make and deliver afternoon teas.
I emailed/messaged but no ones got back to me?
We're sorry! As there's only the two of us now sometimes we can get very busy baking, decorating and delivering.
Although we aim to get back to messages on a daily basis, at busier times there can be a delay, for which we apologise. Currently we work Tuesday - Saturday.
Sundays and Mondays are our weekend so we very rarely get chance to check messages and emails as we're busy being mums 🥰
So if you messaged on a Saturday afternoon for example we probably wont pick up that message until Tuesday.
Your website says you don't deliver to my area
We're sorry, we've recently changed our delivery radius to include new areas but in turn we've had to cut a few. You may also notice our delivery rates have changed depending on how far you are away from us. We hope you understand we are a small business doing all the deliveries ourselves, and have had to price accordingly. If you're just out of our 10 mile radius and would like to enquire if we could deliver just drop us an email and we can check availability.
I want to order but my delivery date isn't on the drop down menu
Sorry! We must either be fully booked that day or on holiday/day off/unavailable. We know that's annoying sorry! We would urge you to consider a date thats close to your desired date as our cakes will stay fresh for up to 3 days after delivery. The only cake we would not advise doing this for, is where fresh cream or fruit is required, as we recommend they are consumed on the day of delivery.
I haven't received an order confirmation?
Please check your junk/spam if you have ordered on our website. If you can't find it there just drop us a quick email to check we've received your order.
